Vol. 563 No. 1

Written Answers - Road Signage.

Denis Naughten

Question:

472 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport if his Department has held discussions with the DTO or Dublin City Council regarding the erection of new directional signs in Dublin city; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7370/03]

Proposals devised in 2002 by Dublin City Council for the determination of orbital routes were not in compliance with the provisions of the traffic signs manual, a copy of which is available in the Oireachtas Library, and were not proceeded with. My Department has engaged in a detailed consultation process with Dublin City Council, the Department of the Environment and Local Government and the National Roads Authority for the purpose of devising an appropriate structure to provide for orbital directional signs on a national basis. This consultation process recently concluded and detailed proposals for a new orbital signage structure have been developed. I am reviewing those proposals with a view to granting a general direction for their deployment as local authorities deem appropriate.
