Vol. 563 No. 1

Written Answers - Garda Deployment.

Denis Naughten

Question:

514 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí who are qualified to test for PSV licences in each garda division; the current role and function of such gardaí; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7364/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are 23 members of the Garda Síochána currently deployed on public service vehicle inspection duties. The following table provides details of deployment by Garda division.

The functions of these inspectors include: inspecting and supervising PSV vehicles; inspecting vehicles involved in serious-fatal collisions and carrying out detailed technical examinations; enforcing legislation and regulations in respect of defective vehicles and the construction, equipment and use of vehicles; and providing technical assistance to Garda investigations within their respective divisions.
