Vol. 563 No. 1

Written Answers - Roads Funding.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

525 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason no moneys were provided in 2002 for the improvement, repair, or restoration of tertiary roads in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County; if he intends to announce tertiary roads grants in 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6973/03]

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has benefited considerably from the significantly increased funding available in recent years for non-national roads. The council's non-national road grant allocation for 2003 is €9.007 million, an increase of 153% on its 1997 outturn.

The selection of particular tertiary and other road lengths for improvement or maintenance under these general allocations or from the authority's own resources is a matter for the individual local authority. My Department has occasionally reallocated moneys to county councils for tertiary roads as a mid-year adjustment of the annual non-national roads programme. No such reallocations were notified in 2002.
