Seán Ryan

Question:

150 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Transport his views on the desirability of developing a second Dublin Airport in order to meet passenger demand from south and west Dublin as well as from surrounding counties. [7129/03]

I am not currently giving consideration to the concept of a second airport to serve Dublin and surrounding counties.

Dublin Airport is not constrained from a capacity point of view. It has sufficient potential to expand and accommodate up to 40 million passengers per annum, subject to the implementation of planned improvements in surface transport to the airport. Accordingly, the case for a second airport in Dublin is unproven given Dublin Airport's capacity to grow for the foreseeable future.
