Vol. 563 No. 1

Written Answers - Rail Services.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

164 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Transport if the feasibility study on railway infrastructure in Cork has been completed; his views and plans on the proposed re-opening of the rail link to Midleton the estimated cost for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7162/03]

David Stanton

Question:

180 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Transport the progress which has been made regarding the plans to upgrade and expand the rail services in Cork; his views on the re-opening of the rail link to Midleton in east Cork and the projected costs of same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7148/03].

I propose to take Questions Nos. 164 and 180 together.

A feasibility study, commissioned by Iarnród Éireann, on the proposals for the development of new rail services in the Cork area has been completed and submitted to the company. A copy was also forwarded to my Department. I expect to receive its views on the study in the near future which I will then consider. Iarnród Éireann plans to make the report, which includes detailed costings, available to the public.

The Cork rail proposals were also the subject of analysis in the strategic rail review, which I propose to bring to Government and then publish in the coming weeks.
