273 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Education and Science the amount of money spent on an annual basis going back over the past five years, on rented premises and lands for primary schools. [7704/03]

Expenditure on rental of temporary school premises for primary schools for the past five years was as follows: 1998 – £1.053 million (€1.337m); 1999 – £1.852 million (€2.352m); 2000 – £3.152 million (€4.002m); 2001 – £4.756 million (€6.039m); 2002 –€8.402 million.

The expenditure covers grant-aid to schools for the rental of temporary accommodation of all kinds and any associated costs, including in some cases the rental of sites for the location of prefabs.

The information as sought by the Deputy is not readily available in this format within my Department. However, arrangements are currently in place to extract the information, details of which will be made available to the Deputy as soon as possible.
