Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Psychological Service.

John Bruton

Question:

282 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science when it will be possible for a person (details supplied) from Laytown national school to be assessed by the school psychologist; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7746/03]

I understand from the national educational psychological service, NEPS, that during the past week, the principal of the school attended by the pupil in question contacted the NEPS psychologist assigned to the school. The referral is currently being processed in the normal way. This involves consultation with relevant staff in the school and arrangements will also be made to meet the child's parents. NEPS informs me that a meeting has been arranged for later this week to discuss the pupil with school personnel. It is envisaged that an individual psychological assessment will be carried out during the next school term.
