Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - School Transport.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

292 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding an application by a person (details supplied) in County Galway for fare paying facilities on the school bus to Belmont national school in respect of their daughter (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7800/03]

The pupil referred to by the Deputy is basically ineligible for transport to Belmont national school under the terms of the school transport scheme, as she resides nearer to another school. However, my Department is prepared to consider allowing her avail of concessionary fare-paying transport to Belmont national school.

This concession is subject to the written agreement of the chairperson of the board of management of the nearest school to the provision of such transport being secured. An official form for this purpose has been issued to the family concerned.
