Written Answers - Special Educational Needs.

Seán Ryan

Question:

317 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the application from St. Patrick's Boys national school, Donabate, County Dublin, for a resource teaching support on behalf of those pupils in the school based on recommendations from NEPS; and when it is expected that the approval for this position will be granted. [8005/03]

All applications for resource teacher and-or special needs assistant support received in my Department between 11 November 2002 and 14 February 2003 have been referred to the national educational psychological service for recommendation on the level and nature of an appropriate educational response. An application from the school referred to by the Deputy is being considered within this process. Schools have been advised that it is my Department's intention to respond to these applications during the week commencing Monday 7 April 2003.
