Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Higher Education Grants.

Richard Bruton

Question:

330 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will re-examine the decision by his Department not to grant an honours degree allowance to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 24; his views on whether the person in question should be given the proper allowance that other teachers in a similar category can obtain from his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8150/03]

The honours degree allowance is payable in respect of degrees conferred and desig nated as honours degrees by appropriate awarding authorities. A bachelors degree at general level is a general course of study and for allowance purposes, therefore, is paid at the pass primary degree rate.

Agreed procedures for dealing with appeals for the payment of allowances in respect of qualifications have been established. An appeal against any decision relating to allowances can be made by submitting a written application, outlining the basis for the appeal, to qualifications section, Department of Education and Science, Athlone, County Westmeath.

Question No. 331 answered with Question No. 293.
