Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Special Educational Needs.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

357 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science if a place will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Offaly who suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder to attend secondary school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8282/03]

My Department's records show that the person in question was enrolled in the school referred to by the Deputy on 30 September 2002. The pupil was then referred by the school to the national educational psychological service for assessment. The pupil was assessed by the NEPS psychologist assigned to the school in October 2002. A copy of the assessment report was referred to the school and to the pupil's parents in December 2002. In the normal course of events the next step would have been for the school to apply to my Department for the resources identified in the assessment. However, there is no record of an application to my Department.

I have asked that NEPS contact the school and the pupil's parents as a matter of urgency to progress the matter.

Question No. 358 answered with Question No. 320.
