Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Tourism Industry.

Phil Hogan

Question:

377 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if he met recently with directors of a company (details supplied); the reason for this meeting; the outcome of the meeting; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7910/03]

I recently met representatives of the company and Bord Fáilte, at their request, with a view to progressing a number of issues that had arisen in relation to the company's affairs. The result of the meeting was that a heads of agreement, setting out the way forward, was signed by the relevant parties. The principal elements of the heads include clarification of ownership of the company's assets, composition of a new board of directors, provisions for a new constitution and memorandum and articles and new arrangements regarding shares, etc.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

378 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism when he intends to introduce the hotel and guesthouse regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7923/03]

Under the terms of the Tourism Traffic Acts 1939 to 1998, it falls to Bord Fáilte to lay down the minimum standards for hotel and guesthouse registration, with the consent of the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism.

I recently gave my consent to a new set of Bord Fáilte regulations for hotels and guesthouses, which are more reflective of modern practice. I understand that, following discussions between Bord Fáilte and the industry, they will come into effect on 1 May 2003.
