I propose to take Questions Nos. 447 to 454, inclusive, together.

The Deputy will be aware that the funding arrangements are such that determinations are issued to health boards-authority in the context of the 1996 accountability legislation. Health boards-authority are required to adopt a service plan within the limits set out in the annual determination of health expenditure. It is the responsibility of the boards-authority to allocate resources across programmes in accordance with specific Government decisions, health policies generally and local needs, as determined by them, including the resources required for the acute hospital programme. In developing the service plan a considerable amount of detail covering the many programmes is taken into consideration by the boards-authority, including issues such as the projected outturn for the previous year and the expected demand and needs for the coming year. In that context, as this level of detail is not available to me, I have asked the health boards-authority to provide the detail covered in the Deputy's question. Accordingly, my Department has written to the chief executive officers of each of the health boards-authority and asked them to supply the information directly to the Deputy. Similarly, as St. John's Hospital, Limerick, receives an annual determination directly from my Department, the chief executive of St. John's Hospital has been asked to reply directly to the Deputy.
