Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Health Board Services.

Bernard Allen

Question:

473 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork is being refused orthotics on the ground that the limbs and appliance section of the Southern Health Board has no funding and cannot sanction this valid request despite the fact that a chartered physiotherapist prescribed them for this person due to their physical condition. [7982/03]

The provision of technical aids and appliances including orhotics to people with physical and sensory disabilities is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards in the first instance. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of Southern Health Board, with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
