Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Visa Applications.

Gerard Murphy

Question:

531 Mr. Murphy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason a holiday visa was refused to a person (details supplied). [7611/03]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 315 on 17 December 2002. The visa application in question was refused because it was not established, on the basis of the documentation supplied to my Department, that the applicant would observe the conditions of a visit visa. In particular, it was felt that the applicant had not displayed sufficient evidence of her obligations to return home following her proposed visit. The applicant stated on her visa application form that her husband was in the State. However, no marriage certificate or documentation to show the basis on which the husband is resident in the State was enclosed in support of the application.

An appeal against the refusal was received in January 2003. No marriage certificate or documentation relating to the applicant's husband was submitted with the appeal. The visa appeals officer, having re-considered the application based on the documentation submitted, upheld the original decision. It is open to the applicant to make a fresh application with up to date supporting documentation and the matter will be considered anew.
