Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Departmental Appointments.

James Breen

Question:

608 Mr. J. Breen asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the number of people with disabilities who have been appointed to State boards in his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7778/03]

As I have indicated in recent replies to Deputies Ring and Naughten, I have not made any appointments to State boards under the aegis of my Department since assuming office in June of last year. The Deputy will appreciate that appointments to State boards are made, in accordance with Government policy, on the basis of relevance of qualifications and suitability. The issue of a person's having a disability is not a factor in assessing a person's suitability for appointment to a State board and records of that nature are not maintained by my Department in respect of the membership of State boards.
