Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Departmental Appointments.

James Breen

Question:

619 Mr. J. Breen asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the number of people with disabilities who have been appointed to State boards in her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7779/03]

The five statutory agencies operating under the aegis of my Department are the Pensions Board: the Combat Poverty Agency; Comhairle; the Social Welfare Tribunal and the Family Support Agency. To this end, The Comhairle Act 2000 specifically provides that five of the 25 person board of that agency shall be representative of people with disabilities.

However, appointments to State boards are generally made on the basis of the qualifications and suitability of the individuals concerned. Records are not retained in relation to the information requested by the Deputy.
