Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Departmental Appointments.

James Breen

Question:

163 Mr. J. Breen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of people with disabilities who have been appointed to State boards in her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7766/03]

The constitution of State boards is governed by statute and I am obliged to make many appointments based on the nominations that I receive from the various nominating bodies. Nominations are based on an individual's expertise and experience in a particular area. I have made a number of appointments since coming to office, but I have not appointed any person solely on the basis of their having a disability.

In these circumstances, I am not in a position to state the number of people with disabilities who have been appointed to state boards in my Department.
