Vol. 563 No. 5

Written Answers - Grant Payments.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

224 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the number of applications on a county basis received to date for grant aid in respect of grants administered by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8515/03]

My Department funds a wide range of grant schemes across the range of its remit. Many of these are administered on behalf of the Department by subsidiary agencies such as ADM and local Leader groups. My Department is not in a position to provide the Deputy with the information requested in respect of applications received by such bodies.

In the case of many of the schemes for which application is made directly to the Department, especially those relating to Gaeltacht areas, applications are not generally classified on a county by county basis and the information requested by the Deputy is not readily available. Given the wide range of such schemes and the large volumes of applications received thereunder on an ongoing basis, I am satisfied that the work involved in compiling and collating a county by county breakdown of applications received would exceed the information value of such statistics.

However, I have directed that the Deputy be supplied with the requested information in respect of all schemes administered directly by my Department for which such information can be readily compiled. If the Deputy wishes to contact me with a specific query in respect of any scheme under the remit of my Department, I would be happy to assist him.

Questions Nos. 225 and 226 answered with Question No. 149.
