Vol. 563 No. 5

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

190 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the provision of a new school building for Moville Community College, Carrowhugh, Greencastle, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8520/03]

The 2003 capital programme has been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. The project referred to by the Deputy is included in section 7 of the programme among the large scale post primary projects at an early stage of architectural planning – pre-planning permission. Having regard to the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction, my Department does not envisage that it will be in a position during this year to allow architectural planning for further large scale projects to progress beyond their current stage. The project will, however, be considered in the context of the capital programme for 2004.

Question:

191 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason Brannockstown national school, Brannockstown, Naas, County Kildare, was not included in the school building programme in view of the fact that his Department gave permission to proceed to planning and to hire an architect for the building of two 76 square metre prefabricated temporary buildings; if his attention has been drawn to the accommodation crisis in the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8521/03]

The 2003 school building programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include any further projects in 2003. The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on applications-projects that could not be included in this year's programme.
