Vol. 563 No. 5

Written Answers - Inspector of Mental Hospitals Report.

Dan Boyle

Question:

203 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason all the reports of the Inspector of Mental Hospitals since 1990 are not available; and the reason those that are available are only available in excerpt form. [8494/03]

In accordance with the provisions of sections 247 and 248 of the Mental Treatment Act 1945, the Inspector of Mental Hospitals prepares and presents a report to me each year on psychiatric hospitals and services and the care of patients therein. This report is laid before each House of the Oireachtas. Copies may be purchased from the Government Publications Sale Office or, alternatively, the report can be freely accessed on the website of the Department of Health and Children at www.doh.ie.

As the inspector's reports for some of the years since 1990 are out of print and no longer available from the Government Publications Sale Office, I have made arrangements within my Department for photocopies of the reports to be made available to the Deputy on request.
