Vol. 563 No. 6

Written Answers - Tax Yield.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

61 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the way in which it transpired that a person (details supplied) in County Kildare has been taxed on pension accruing from their late father's employment in view of the fact that they were born after their father's tragic death; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8604/03]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the Office of the Paymaster General has indicated that tax at the emergency rate has been deducted from the child's pension in the absence of a certificate of tax credits and standard rate cut off point for the child. A certificate was issued on 20 March following a telephone call to the Central Revenue information office. The Office of the Paymaster General did not receive the certificate in time to prevent emergency tax being deducted from the pension payment to be paid on 27 March. All tax deducted will be refunded on the next payment date.
