Vol. 563 No. 6

Written Answers - School Transport.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

65 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if the school transport section is suggesting, in relation to the response to Parliamentary Question No. 360 of 11 March, that the three children of the person (details supplied) who are established in Sallins national school since 1988, should now be transferred to the nearest school to become re-eligible for free transport; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8549/03]

The family to whom the Deputy refers are eligible for transport to their nearest school. There is no service operating to this school from the area concerned as there are an insufficient number of eligible pupils offering for transport to it.

In the event that the family decided to transfer their children to the nearest school, my Department would be prepared to consider the payment of grant aid towards the cost of private transport arrangements from their home to the school.
