Vol. 563 No. 6

Written Answers - School Transport.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

71 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if, in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare, recompense will be offered for the period September 2002 to March 2003 during which they had to provide special transport for their child attending St. Rose's, Balrothery, Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8603/03]

I am pleased to advise the Deputy that my Department is in a position to offer grant-aid towards the cost of private transport arrangements for the period during the 2002/3 school year in which transport was unavailable to the pupil concerned.

In the exceptional circumstances, my Department has sanctioned an enhanced grant at the rate of 63.5 cent per mile. Based on the total mileage involved, this equates to €38.10 per day.

Claims for payment of this grant may be made to my Department's school transport section, Portlaoise Road, Tullamore by forwarding a statement from the school outlining the number of days the pupil attended during the period concerned.
