Vol. 564 No. 2

Written Answers - Gun Control.

Michael Noonan

Question:

214 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason persons who own guns for sporting purposes are not allowed to load, that is, assemble their own ammunition; if this is prevented by law; if he will consider lifting this restriction in view of the changed circumstances in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9200/03]

The matter the Deputy has raised is currently the subject of a firearms licensing policy review which I am undertaking in consultation with the Garda Commissioner. As the review is nearing completion, the Deputy will appreciate that it would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this stage.
