Vol. 564 No. 2

Written Answers - Insurance Industry.

Paul Kehoe

Question:

104 Mr. Kehoe asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of letters of complaint her Department has received in 2000, 2001, 2002 and to date in 2003 regarding insurance costs; the number from each county; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9164/03]

There is no formal record maintained distinguishing letters of complaint from general correspondence. However, it is estimated that the insurance section of this Department handled the following number of written queries: year 2000 – 760; year 2001 – 728; year 2002 – 1,849; up to end of March 2003 – 293.

The majority of queries relate to complaints regarding increases in personal insurance premiums, especially for motor insurance.

The Department does not subdivide correspondence by county.
