Seán Haughey

Question:

135 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding a legal action taken against him by a company (details supplied) which claims that he had agreed to cede a piece of land to it before he made a decision to cede it to Dublin City Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9109/03]

Proceedings were issued in the Circuit Court by this company against me as Minister for Finance, Ireland and the Attorney General on 11 December 2001 and served on the Chief State Solicitor's Office on behalf of the defendants on 8 January 2002. An appearance on behalf of all the defendants was delivered on 11 January 2002. On 20 February 2002, the Chief State Solicitor's Office sent a letter to the plaintiff's solicitors seeking security for costs in accordance with order 16 of the Circuit Court rules. On 6 March 2002 the Chief State Solicitor's Office received a letter from the plaintiff's solicitors indicating that they were taking their client's instruction in relation to the matter and would revert thereafter. To date the office has not received a communication from the plaintiff's solicitors.
