Vol. 564 No. 3

Written Answers - Psychological Service.

Richard Bruton

Question:

165 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will immediately organise a second psychological assessment for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 24 in view of the fact that this person's parents and the school cannot obtain the first psychological assessment that was completed and that this person has obtained a place in a new school; and if this matter will be progressed as soon as possible. [9407/03]

I understand that the national educational psychological service is urgently taking steps to gain access to the assessment records of the child named by the Deputy in order to complete the assessment process. This is necessary so as to avoid the use of the same test material, which could have the effect of invalidating the results, given the closeness of time between both assessments.

The NEPS hopes, therefore, to be in a position to review this case during the summer term 2003. The child's family will be kept informed of developments. Meanwhile, it would be helpful if the name of the school now attended by the child could be supplied to the NEPS.
