Vol. 564 No. 3

Written Answers - Health Board Payments.

Denis Naughten

Question:

203 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children the breakdown by board area of the payments received by general practitioners for ineligible patients; if any of the general practitioners involved are members of health boards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9434/03]

On 27 March last, officials from my Department indicated to the Public Accounts Committee that a tentative estimate of the possible overpayments to doctors is €6 million.

I would stress that this figure is indicative since the processing exercise is still under way. My Department has instructed the ERHA and the health boards to complete the exercise with urgency and in the meantime it is not possible to say what the extent of the overpayment, if any, is in respect of each participating general practitioner.
