Question:

32 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of sheep farmers who have dropped out of the business in the past year; the number of applicants for the sheep premium in 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8855/03]

Under the 2002 ewe premium scheme a total of 36,128 applications were received compared to 34,926 received under the 2003 scheme representing a reduction of 1,202 applicants.
