Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - School Placement.

David Stanton

Question:

183 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will make provision to enable a child (details supplied) to attend an appropriate second level school in September; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9782/03]

My Department has correspondence in relation to a potential appeal under section 29 of the Education Act 1998 regarding the child referred to by the Deputy. The application is currently being processed and officials of my Department have been in contact with the child's parents.

Section 29 of the Education Act 1998 provides for an appeal to the Secretary General of my Department where a board of management of a school or a person acting on behalf of the board refuses to enrol a student; suspends a student for a cumulative total of more than 20 days in an academic year; or expels a student from the school.
