Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

233 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need for extra facilities at Tiermohan national school, County Kildare; his plans for an urgent response to same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10497/03]

The 2003 schools building programme has been published. Full details of projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include further projects in 2003. The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on applications that could not be included in this year's programme. Schools should use their devolved grant to deal with urgent health and safety works.

Question:

236 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will update the information with regard to the provision of the facilities required at Coláiste Cois Life, Lucan, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10500/03]

The project to provide a new school for Coláiste Cois Life in Lucan, County Dublin is at an advanced stage of architectural planning. The design team is currently working on the stage 4/5 submission, detail design-bills of quantities.

The 2003 schools building programme has been published. In view of the scale of it, and having regard to the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction, I do not envisage that my Department will be in a position to authorise additional large scale projects to proceed to construction in 2003.

The project at Coláiste Cois Life will be considered in the context of the 2004 building programme.

Question:

238 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science his plans to provide for future accommodation and educational needs at Scoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10502/03]

The building project at the school is in the early stages of architectural planning. Given the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction under the capital programme for 2003, I do not envisage that my Department will be in a position during this year to allow further large scale projects to progress beyond their current authorised stage.

The timing of when the project can proceed to construction is dependent on the financial allocation for 2004 and subsequent years.

Question:

242 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science when he proposes to respond to the need to carry out remedial works on the roof of Scoil Mhuire, Clane, County Kildare, having particular regard to the materials in the existing structure; if he has proposals to expedite the issue on health and safety grounds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10506/03]

At present my Department's post-primary building unit is considering a professional report on the condition of the roof of the original building at the school.
