Vol. 565 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Strength.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

316 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will consider approving a second Garda position at a station (details supplied) in County Cork. [10466/03]

I have been advised by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the day-to-day management of resources, including personnel, that the current strength of the station referred to by the Deputy is one garda. Local Garda management is satisfied that the resources currently in place in that station are adequate to meet the present policing needs of the area. I am further informed that resources are augmented from within the district and division as required. The situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available the needs of the station will be fully considered within the context of the overall needs of Garda stations throughout the country.
