Vol. 565 No. 2

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31. I propose to call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

In accordance with the terms of Standing Order 31 I seek the adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the following specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent attention: the urgent need for the Minister for Health and Children to take immediate steps to avert the strike of public health doctors which is due to go ahead on Monday next, having regard to the vital role played by these doctors in combating infectious diseases and in view of the potential threat of the spread of the SARS condition; and to outline what procedures have been put in place to provide emergency cover should the strike proceed.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate a matter of major national and local importance, namely, the decision by An Post to relocate the Lahardane postman's job, after 150 years of service to the people of Lahardane, County Mayo, from Lahardane Post Office.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to highlight the failure of the Government to tackle the terrible record of this country in overrunning limits on CO2 greenhouse gas emissions, which is now made worse by the ESB decision not to convert Moneypoint generating station from coal to gas and so to continue emitting over five million tons of CO2 from Moneypoint alone.

Having considered the matters, they are not in accordance with Standing Order 31.
