Vol. 565 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

61 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science the provision he is making to ensure that the closure of the Edmund Rice College in Limerick does not have a negative impact on young people in the north of the city; if he will sanction extra teaching and resource time to St. Nessan's community college to address the needs of students they will take in as a result of the closure of the Edmund Rice College; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10182/03]

My Department has been advised recently of the decision by the trustees to close Edmund Rice College. Further clarification is being sought in the matter by my Department from the school authorities.

Appropriate school staffing provision will continue to be made by my Department, in conjunction with the school authorities, to cater for the needs of all second level pupils in the Limerick area, including St. Nessan's, in accordance with approved teacher allocation criteria and procedures.
