I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ring – Government policy on the retention of postal delivery services and postmen in rural communities; (2) Deputy Hayes – the serious jobs crisis in Tipperary, the urgent need to attract industry to the area and the urgency of providing a replacement industry following the closure of PALL; (3) Deputy Cooper-Flynn – the decision to remove a postman from Lahardane post office, given the Government's policy on the development of our rural communities in the recently published national spatial strategy; (4) Deputy Carty – Government policy on the retention of postmen in rural communities; (5) Deputy Donal Moynihan – the extreme hardship caused to pupils and staff of St. Coleman's boys national school, Macroom, County Cork, and St. Joseph's primary school, Macroom, County Cork, due to the decision to terminate posts allocated under the Giving Children an Even Break scheme; the process of appeal for applications made under this disadvantaged programme; and the details of the scoring system used; (6) Deputy O'Connor – whether the policy of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment has changed in respect of the social economy scheme which has funded long-established community training projects through FÁS; (7) Deputy Costello – the need for the Minister for Finance to provide funding for the interim public works programme that has been drawn up to prevent flooding on the Tolka River in Dublin; to ensure that the works programme is carried out in 2003; and to host a meeting between the Tolka River Residents Association, Dublin City Council and the insurance industry to ensure that home insurance cover continues to be provided at a reasonable cost; (8) Deputy Cowley – the decision to remove a postman from Lahardane post office, County Mayo; (9) Deputy Pat Breen – the communication problem between the Department of Education and Science and Clare VEC regarding St. Michael's Community College, Kilmihil, County Clare, and the prioritisation of the college as a matter of urgency under health and safety legislation; (10) Deputy Neville – the industrial dispute of the public health doctors; (11) Deputy Allen – the imminent closure of the ADM Plant at Ringaskiddy, County Cork, and the need for the Minister to immediately intervene; (12) Deputy Broughan – the urgent need to make representations to Russia and Turkey about the peoples of Chechnya and Turkish Kurdistan; (13) Deputy Boyle – the implementation of the recommendations of the Report of the Review Group on Psychological Services within the health service.
The matters raised by Deputies O'Connor, Allen, Broughan and Boyle have been selected for discussion and will be taken at the conclusion of business.
