Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

180 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the additional accommodation required for Millicent NS, Clane, County Kildare; if he will sanction architectural planning for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10704/03]

The 2003 school building programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include any further projects in 2003.

The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on applications that could not be included in this year's programme. In the meantime, individual schools should use their devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.

Question:

181 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the required extension to Meanscoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare, has been frozen in architectural planning despite the fact that he deems the project necessary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10705/03]

The building project at Scoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare, is in the early stages of architectural planning. Given the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction under the capital programme for 2003, I do not envisage that my Department will be in a position during this year to allow further large scale projects to progress beyond their current authorised stage. The question of the further progress of the project will be considered in the context of the financial allocation for 2004 and subsequent years.

Question No. 182 answered with Question No. 167.
