Written Answers. - Mental Health Services.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Question:

324 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Health and Children the details of his Department's preparations for a new national policy framework for the further modernisation of mental health services; the consultative process in train and planned; and his views on the findings of the Stark Facts report. [10962/03]

The health strategy, Quality and Fairness – A Health System for You, included a commitment to prepare a new national policy framework for the further modernisation of mental health services. All areas of mental health policy and service provision will be examined in the course of this work and all interested parties will be consulted. Work on the framework is expected to commence later this year.

The findings of the report, entitled The Stark Facts, highlight areas of genuine concern with the mental health services. In recent years funding for these services has increased significantly.
