Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Denis Naughten

Question:

392 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 400 of 10 December 2002, if he has received the report in question; the decision, if any, recommended to change Garda divisional boundaries; if he will ensure that the Roscommon-East Galway division will be retained; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11019/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the situation regarding Garda divisional boundaries has not changed since the reply given to Parliamentary Question No. 400 of 10 December 2002. Research and consultation on aligning Garda divisions is continuing and no decision has been taken by the Garda Síochána to recommend changes.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

393 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 61 of 9 April 1997 (details supplied), the number of gardaí currently deployed in each county in accordance with their rank; the percentage increase or decrease of this figure in the corresponding period 12 months ago; and if such information, which was readily available hitherto for a Dáil Deputy in the form of a parliamentary question, will be made available in this instance. [11116/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the Garda divisional boundaries and county boundaries do not correlate. The personnel strength of each Garda division by rank as 19 March 2003 and percentage increase-decrease since 2 April 2002 is set out in the following table:
