Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Access to Land.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

130 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the steps he has taken to control livestock that is trespassing on the farm of a person (details supplied) in County Galway and on those of many of their neighbours; the steps he intends to take; when such measures will be implemented to solve this problem which is causing great anxiety to a number of adjoining farmers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10720/03]

The issue of trespass is a civil matter and is not the responsibility of my Department. However, I am aware of the particular problem and the local district veterinary office is currently attempting to resolve the matter in conjunction with the local Defence Forces.

However, the situation is compounded because the particular holding in question is land-locked and access to the holding is difficult. A successful resolution of the problem, therefore, will require the co-operation and assistance of local farmers. The legal division of my Department is currently writing to the seven neighbouring landowners requesting access to this holding on animal health and public safety grounds.
