Vol. 565 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

79 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will re-examine a school bus transport matter on the grounds that a person (details supplied) is attending the primary school in their catchment area. [11176/03]

In the case of amalgamations, pupils residing in a closed school area, may be deemed eligible for transport to the school of amalgamation only. Parish boundaries have no bearing on a pupils transport entitlement under the terms of the school transport scheme. The pupil concerned resides in a closed school area, which amalgamated with Inch NS. In the circumstances, the pupil is eligible for transport to Inch NS only. My Department has been advised that there is no suitable transport service available to Inch NS from the pupil's area. In the above circumstances, the pupil concerned may be allowed concessionary fare paying transport on the service to Dungourney NS, without the agreement of the Inch school authorities. In the event that the family holds a valid medical card the concessionary fare of €26 per pupil per term may be waived.
