Vol. 565 No. 4

Written Answers. - Arts Council.

Finian McGrath

Question:

112 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if the appointment of the new Arts Council is imminent; and if he will take this opportunity to appoint an all new council which will avoid the traditional charge of political or geographical influences on appointments. [11170/03]

The term of office of the current membership of the Arts Council expires this year. It is my intention, subject to the enactment of the Arts Bill 2002 to appoint the new council membership in accordance with the provisions of the Bill as passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas. In that context, I will make sure the council has the mix of experience, expertise, and commitment to do its job effectively during its term of office.
