Question:

128 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health and Children the growth in VHI membership, and in the premia income, over each of the last ten years; the annual total increase in membership and in total premia income since 1997; the gross underwriting profits, GUP, of VHI operations over the past ten years, as well as the annual percentage increase in GUP in each year since 1997; if there is any evidence of instability attributable to risk selection in the VHI membership base, as suggested in the White Paper on VHI 1999 and more recently by the Minister of State in the process of enacting the Health Insurance (Amendment) Act 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
