Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Finian McGrath

Question:

278 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the proposed new computer room for Árd Scoil Rís boys secondary school, Griffith Avenue, Marino, Dublin 9; and if this project will be put on a priority list. [11372/03]

The 2003 school building programme has been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. Given the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction, I do not envisage that my Department will be in a position during this year to initiate architectural planning for any further building projects, including the provision of a computer room at Ard Scoil Rís. The project will, however, be considered for the 2004 capital programme.

Pat Breen

Question:

279 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for Education and Science if attention will be given to the application by Shragh national school, Kilrush, County Clare, for a school extension, special resource room and toilets, which is needed to cater for a number of students; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11373/03]

Architectural planning for a proposed smaller scale building project for Shragh national school is at an advanced stage. The 2003 school building programme was recently published and on the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to make provision for any further projects in 2003.

The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects, including the proposed project for Shragh national school, that could not be included in this year's programme.

In the meantime, individual schools should use their devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.
