Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Pat Carey

Question:

329 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if, in view of the additional material supplied by the parent of a child (details supplied) in Dublin 11, he will review the request for special education support services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11822/03]

The enrolment of a pupil in a primary school is a matter for the school's board of management. My Department operates an automatic response to applications for special needs assistant support to enable schools to cater for children with special needs, once these needs are confirmed through assessments by relevant professionals. It is open to the management authorities of the school in question to submit an application for such support to my Department, having regard to the Department's criteria and procedures for special needs resource allocation.
