Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Safety Regulations.

Michael Ring

Question:

386 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the amount of money that was provided for anglers and boatmen who are upgrading their facilities in relation to safety regulations introduced by the Government; the number of people who made applications for the grant; the number of people who were approved; the number of people waiting for approval; and if this grant scheme is still in place. [12210/03]

Since 1999, grant aid of over €1.1 million has been made available under a number of measures to anglers and operators of sea angling boats to upgrading their facilities. Of this, some €720,000 in grant aid was approved to facilitate upgrading in line with safety regulations. In addition, grant aid of some €400,000 was made available in 2002 for the purchase of six new vessels, each of which are up to the latest safety standards. This latest grant scheme is still in operation and 15 applications are currently being assessed for approval.

The following table gives a breakdown of approvals for upgrading facilities for safety purposes on an annual basis since 1999.
