Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Hospitals Agency.

Bernard Allen

Question:

533 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the setting up of a national hospitals agency given that is was due to be up and running by the end of 2002. [12304/03]

The health strategy envisaged that the proposed national hospitals agency, NHA, would have a key role in the organisation, development and future configuration of acute hospital services. The role and functions of the NHA were considered by Prospectus Management consultants as part of the audit of structures and functions of the health care system. The establishment of the national hospitals agency will therefore be considered in the context of the recommendations of the Prospectus report.
