Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Finian McGrath

Question:

608 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the total number of gardaí working in Clontarf Garda station and Coolock Garda station; the number of new gardaí recruited to these stations over the past year; the number of gardaí involved in active community policing; and the names of the 70 gardaí who were on duty outside Dáil Éireann at 7.30 p.m. on 9 April 2003 minding 50 women peace protesters. [11346/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the day-to-day allocation of resources, including personnel, that the current personnel strengths of Clontarf and Coolock Garda stations is as set out as follows:

Station

28/04/2003

Clontarf

58

Coolock

82

Six newly attested gardaí have been allocated to Clontarf Garda station since 31 March 2002. Five newly attested gardaí have been allocated to Coolock Garda station since 31 March 2002. All gardaí allocated to Clontarf and Coolock Garda stations have a responsibility to deal with community policing matters as they arise. I am further informed that it is not Garda policy to release the names of individual gardaí involved in particular operations.
