Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Jack Wall

Question:

668 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his Department has plans to provide a new Garda station at Carbury, County Kildare; the number of gardaí stationed in the present station at Carbury; if he has plans to increase the number of gardaí at Carbury station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12098/03]

In December 2002, I approved the relocation of the Garda station at Carbury to Derrinturn. The necessary work to give effect to this relocation is ongoing. I have been informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the day to day allocation of resources, including personnel, that the personnel strength of Carbury Garda station as at 6 May 2003 is two – all ranks. Local Garda management is satisfied that the current personnel strength of Carbury Garda station is adequate to meet the present policing needs of the area.

The situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available, the needs of the Carbury area will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda stations throughout the country.

John Deasy

Question:

669 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a replacement Garda is being appointed to replace the Garda due to retire at Leamybrien Garda station, County Waterford; and when he expects the new Garda to take up duty. [12138/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the day-to-day allocation of resources, including personnel, that the Garda attached to Leamybrien Garda station retired on 1 May 2003. A replacement member has been identified by local Garda management and arrangements are being made accordingly.
