Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Summer Jobs Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

751 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the progress which has been made by the area based partnerships to assist students from disadvantaged areas in finding suitable summer employment as a replacement to the student summer job scheme; if a scheme has been found; the opportunities in place for students living in disadvantaged areas who cannot find summer work easily; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11730/03]

I have asked the area partnerships to consider how best they can assist students from disadvantaged areas to access employment during the summer months. A particular scheme of employment along the lines of the old scheme is not envisaged. Rather I anticipate that the partnerships may offer practical assistance and support to students from disadvantaged areas in finding temporary summer employment in the labour market.

I am in contact with ADM and keeping the matter under review.
